Introduction

Land of the Morning Light is a new BDO region expansion that arrived on Korean Live servers on 29th March 2023, with a global release on 14th June 2023.

Land of the Morning Light is the expansion to the land on the Haso Continent across the seas, behind what we previously knew as Port Ratt and the homeland of the Musa, Maehwa, and Lahn classes. Now players will finally be able to explore the land behind this little town. The new region looks to be around the same size as Kamaslyvia. It has been talked about by Pearl Abyss for many years but was officially first teased at Heidel Ball 2022, with more information being revealed at Calpheon Ball 2022.

You can check out the new region on our Interactive Map!

Inspiration and Theme

The Land of the Morning Light is inspired by the Joseon Dynasty, the last dynastic kingdom of Korea. The region features unique terrain, buildings, and vegetation that are reminiscent of the era. The setting of the Land of the Morning Light is based on various folktales and legends passed down from ancient times to modern times.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (12)

There are lots of small references and places in the game that are based on real places in Korea.

Near Dalbeol Village, you can even find Dol Hareubang statues, which are found on Jeju Island in real life! They are considered to be gods offering both protection and fertility, and touching their nose can bring you good luck, so this is the perfect place to enhance in Land of the Morning Light.

New Races

New races are being introduced with the addition of Land of the Morning Light. The first is the Horang, which is similar to the Fadus we know from Kamaslyvia.

There are also the Hare and Tortoise Folk, which are similar to the Otter and Papu races.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (19)

The story quests will be full of Korean folklore and unlike other story quests, players will be able to choose their own path in the story. The Land of the Morning Light splits off into its own story, giving a break from the main plot of Ancient Relics and Illezra the White Witch. Adventurers will find themselves swept up into an incident with Dolswe, leading you to be under the watchful eye of Lee Duksoo, Warden of the Donghae Province.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (20)

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (21)

Unlike previous regions with linear stories, Adventurers will be searching for information on their own and deciding where to explore based on those findings. For example, Adventurers will gather information from the town regarding a monster that eats people’s livers, and follow that information to discover who the Gumiho is, and how to solve that case.

There are 8 short stories available as chapters in your “Storybook”. The Storybook is a journal or diary that you can refer to for clues and it will store your current story progress. All of the stories begin in the village and you can do them in any order, but you cannot start a new story until you have completed the current one. After completing all 8 chapters, you will unlock 5 more stories in a second journal.

The story will not have linear progression like in the past, and there are actually 2 different endings for each story. The ending you choose will be stored in your new “Storybook”, along with illustrations from your journey. One of the main characters in the story is Yeonghwa. Adventures already met her in the Magnus, but it appears she already made it back to her homeland before us.

Completing all the chapters in your Storybook will award you with +1 AP and +1 DP for your entire family!

  • Complete the quest “[Morning Light] Dokkebi’s Gift” for 1 DP
  • Complete the quest “[Morning Light] The one who commands Taebaek” for 1 AP

You can also unlock 2 extra crystal slots by completing the Story quests, by consuming the new Kkebiwater item that you obtain as a quest reward.

Black Shrine (Boss Blitz)

Unlike previous regions, the Land of the Morning Light will not have the traditional grind spots. This new region will instead have various bosses.

Black Shrine Guide

There are 9 different bosses and each one has complicated mechanics and strategy. Some examples of these new bosses are the Gumiho, Songakshi, Duoksini, the Bamboo Legion Lieutenant and the Apex Changui.

The boss fights are designed to be challenging and intense, and there are up to 10 levels of difficulty for each boss, with new mechanics or attack patterns introduced as you climb to a higher difficulty.

Currently, you can only challenge up to level 7, and level 8+ will be unlocked at a later date to allow time for players to become more familiar with the bosses.

Any class can challenge up to level 5 difficulty straight away, but to reach level 6 and higher, the difficulty must be unlocked one by one. When the first player in each class clears a level for the first time, a message is displayed for all players to honor the achievement. This player then unlocks the next level for all players in the same class.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (32)

Black Shrine can be accessed by going to the ESC Menu > Adventure (F5) > Black Shrine menu.

Each time you complete a story chapter in Land of the Morning Light, you can unlock the boss that is connected to that story.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (33)

Important Info about Black Shrine

  1. The ratio of damage received/dealt by the boss is 90% based on the Aura system and 10% of the character’s attack/defense stats, respectively.
    • Only 10% of skill-specific effects and buff effects related to the character’s AP/DP are applied.
    • During the boss fight, only critical hits from Aura attacks are displayed. (Critical hits by existing character stats are applied but not displayed.)
    • During the boss fight, the critical hit rate for Aura attacks is applied at 50%.
    • During the boss fight, 20% resistance to all status ailments is applied. (The increased resistance value due to the existing character stats does not apply.)
    • Therefore, for the battle to proceed smoothly, you must acquire/use the Light Orbs acquired while proceeding with the main quest to acquire the Aura benefits.
  2. The bosses can be defeated 5 times a week for the entire family, and it will be deducted if the boss of each difficulty level is successfully defeated. (Resets at 00:00 on Sunday)
    • In the case of a successful boss fight, the number of times will not be deducted even if you try again and succeed in defeating the boss.
    • The count is not deducted if you lose or give up.
    • If you have consumed all 5 boss fights times per week, you can continue to challenge the level you have already succeeded in, and the highest record will be reflected in the boss ranking information.
  3. After checking the information on each boss’s weak Aura, you can fight more smoothly by investing Light Orbs in the weak Aura.
    • Bosses are only affected by their weak Aura, and other Auras are not affected.

Boss Aura System

In the Aura Management tab of the Black Shrine UI, you can check which Aura each boss is weak towards.

Each boss has an Aura allocated to them (eg. Sun, Moon, Earth) and the Aura affects the attack and defense of the boss.

You may be able to defeat the lower levels of the bosses straight away, but to further progress and make the fight easier, you will need to collect points called Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (34)Light Orb” while completing the main quests in Land of the Morning Light, and then use these points to strengthen a certain Aura.

  • For example, if you put points into the Earth Aura, you will become stronger against bosses that have that Aura. The amount of “Light Orb” you can obtain will be limited so you need to think carefully and plan how you want to allocate the points.

The Auras are very important, since 90% of your damage is determined by the Aura type, and the remaining 10% is determined by your character AP. The ratio for your defenses is the same as well, with 90% of your defenses determined by the Aura type, and the remaining 10% determined by your DP. However, your character stats will become more and more important when you reach the higher difficulty levels since the Auras can only be leveled so far.

You can reset your Auras at any time for 2 million silver. Currently, you can get 3 Light Orb from the Story quests.

Boss Kill Leaderboard

Completion time for boss kills will be recorded in a leaderboard against other players. The Black Shrine rankings are applied to each class separately, and not to your entire family.

The boss kills rankings are updated at 00:00 every day and on Sunday at 00:00, rewards are given to all players who successfully completed the boss. There are different tiers for the rewards, and the reward you obtain is based on your kill speed and ranking.

Gathering Mini-games

You can obtain knowledge of the Green Thumb Gathering by completing a series of quests in the Land of the Morning Light. This knowledge unlocks a green artisan skill, which adds a mini-game to the gathering life skill. The mini-game will trigger randomly and is different for each type of gathering.

The mini-game is easy to complete, and if you are successful, you will use more energy but will obtain a large amount of gathering materials all at once. This is expected to reduce the time required for gathering, and very rare materials can only be obtained through this new type of gathering.

For example, the Millennial Wild Ginseng is a highly prized item in the Land of the Morning Light, and when used, you can get a buff that lasts for 3 months. This item is exclusive to the new gathering ability but can be exchanged with other players on the central market.

Marni Sniper Rifle and Hunting Lifeskill

Mad Scientist Marni has created a new invention in the Land of the Morning. Various improvements have been made to sniper hunting, including that the damage you deal depends on the area that you hit. For example, the greatest damage will be dealt with a headshot. The quality of the reward now also depends on your accuracy.

Marni’s Sniper Rifle allows you to see the exact area you shot.

Land of the Morning Light Patch Guide - BDFoundry (118)

To craft Marni’s Sniper Rift you must use the Dokkebi Tool Workshop in Land of the Morning Light.

The Sniper Rifle requires a new item called “Mystical Powder”. This can be obtained from the Dokkebi Forest, Haemo Island, and Golden Pig Cave nodes.
